Day 1: Arusha

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Jambo, on arrival at the airport you will be personally met and accompanied by one of the Wild Root Safaris guides to your accommodation at the Arusha Coffee Lodge. You have the choice to unwind and relax at your accommodation, or you can explore the busy small town of Arusha at your leisure. We recommend a visit to the Arts and Craft Market, where you can pick up local handicrafts made by local artisans

Day 2: Tarangire National Park

After breakfast you will be greeted by one of the Wild Root Safaris professional guides who will brief you on the activities of the day before heading off on the first day of your safari. After the briefing we will make our way to Tarangire National Park for a day of game viewing. This park has some one of the highest densities of elephants in Tanzania, and its sparse vegetation is dotted by baobab and acacia trees making it a attractively unique landscape. The park owes its name to the perennial Tarangire River and photographic opportunities abound when the many mammals of the park make their way to the water to drink. You may be lucky enough to encounter a herd of elephants frolicking in the mud and coating themselves to protect their skin from the sun, or giraffes reaching high into the acacia trees for a feed. You will enjoy dinner and overnight accommodation at the luxurious Olivers Camp Tarangire.

Day 3: Tarangire National Park

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Enjoy another full day in Tarangire National Park. You have the option enjoy a full day of game viewing, or maybe rise early for a balloon safari (this is an optional activity and as such is not included in the quoted safari price) or you can simply enjoy some rest and relaxation at the Oliver’s Camp for the day. When game driving, alongside herds of elephants you can also expect to see zebra, eland, mongoose, giraffe, bushbuck, hartebeest, dik-dik, impala, warthog, reedbuck. Many carnivores are abundant throughout the park such as lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena and jackal. Retire to Olivers Camp Tarangire to enjoy a sundowner while taking in the many colours of the setting sun over the Tarangire landscape.

Day 4: Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
This morning you will enjoy a game drive through Tarangire National Park en-route to the picturesque Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Enjoy the beautiful panoramic views as we drive up into the highlands to your accommodation at Gibbs Farm for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
In the early morning we will depart for the remarkable Ngorongoro Crater. The rich pasture and permanent water of the Crater floor supports a resident population of an estimated 25,000 mammals, you are sure to be overwhelmed at the abundance of wildlife that exist within the crater at any one time. You are probable to see large herds of wildebeest, buffalo, zebra and Thompson’s gazelle. There are also large numbers of lion and spotted hyena resident in the crater. The dense forest on the slopes and rim of the crater provides shelter for elephants. And the endangered Black Rhino.
At dawn. The endangered black rhino returns to the thick cover of the crater forests after grazing on dew-laden grass in the morning mist. Ascend the crater in the early afternoon to enjoy sundowners at the decadent and relaxing Gibbs Farm.

Day 6 & 7: Serengeti National Park

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Today, we will make our way to the world-renowned Serengeti National Park and your luxury accommodation for the next 2 nights at Angata Camps. En-route we will visit a Maasai Boma where you will get the chance to see the Maasai performing their traditional dances. You may even get a chance to join in! The Serengeti is characterized by fabulously abundant concentrations of wildlife, impressively beautiful landscapes and vast pristine areas making the Serengeti one of the most thrilling parks to visit in Africa. The number of wildlife that call this park home are simply staggering. Estimates put wildebeest numbers at 1.7 million, zebras at 250,000, Thomson’s gazelle at 440,000. Also, be on the lookout for lion, hyena and cheetah, as these predators also exist in high concentration on these world famous plains. Arrive in time for sundowners at the luxurious AngataCamp. This luxury camp is a welcome site to unwind, relax and enjoy a sundowner before your sumptuous evening meal

Day 8: Zanzibar

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at Angata Camps before being taken to Seronera Airstrip for your connecting flight to Zanzibar. Enjoy the unique perspective of watching Africa’s wildlife from the sky as you depart for a relaxing beach break at Matemwe Lodge in Zanzibar.

Days 9 – 11: Zanzibar

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
The north east part of Zanzibar Island is known as Matemwe. The area is renowned for its fine white sand beaches, the contrasting colours of the Indian Ocean and the beauty of the coral reef around Mnemba Island. Matemwe borders a small fishing village where local fisherman set out on a daily basis in their traditional dhows passing close to Matemwe. The stretch of perfect beach alongside the lodge is shared only with the fishing village which is positioned on the far side of the soft sand. There are not many beaches in Zanzibar still containing only one resort and care has been taken to ensure privacy and exclusivity throughout the resort. Matemwe is just 60 minutes’ drive from Stone Town, allowing for easy day trips and excursions to the many different and varied places that characterize Zanzibar. Enjoy the next 3 nights at Matemwe Lodge relaxing, exploring or partaking in one of the many day tours this beautiful island has to offer.

Day 12: Zanzibar to Airport

On your final day at Matemwe Lodge you will be transferred to Zanzibar International Airport where your adventure with Wild Root Safaris concludes. You may wish to add one of our optional activities as your next destination.

In the quiet south-east of Tarangire National Park, beside Silale and Lormakau marshes, Oliver’s Camp is a lovely tented camp that sits on a low, sandy ridge. Open from June to the end of March, it is particularly good for game in the height of the dry season, when the marshes attract huge herds of buffalo, zebra and wildebeest. It originally started off as a temporary camp, but was made permanent in 2008.

Angata camp

Open all year ’round, the camp is situated in the central Serengeti in the Seronera area, Ang’ata Serengeti is ideally situated for game drives in all directions throughout the Serengeti all year-round.The tents are furnished with a single, twin or double beds and have mosquito nets for guests’ comfort. Each tent also has an en-suite bathroom with a shower only, and coffee, tea and water are provided. A comfortable lounge will ensure you enjoy your free time at Angata Serengeti and give guests the opportunity to chat to other visitors.

Matemwe Beach Village

The Matemwe beach village is a small guesthouse located on the North-east coast of Zanzibar.Rooms are simple but very comfortable. All rooms are en-suite and have ceiling fans and mosquito nets. There are seven standard rooms near the ocean front and ten set further back which still give a glimpse of the sea. There are also a number of popular suites that offer a more luxurious night’s sleep including the Asali honeymoon suite with its own plunge pool and dedicated staff.
